Chapter One

Happenings: The Corner of Walk and Don’t Walk

BREAKING NEWS: Local Boy Embarks on a Quest for

Meaning: Encounters a Puppy, a Garbage Truck, and a

Collision of Destinies at the Corner…Along with a

Healthy Dose of Confusion!

The puppy stared blankly, like it had binge-watched Lost

and still wanted answers. Jimmy, driven by either heroism

or residual energy from the cookies, launched himself into action.

Heroism, as it happens, isn’t always clean or timely, but

sometimes it’s enough to make a difference.

Rushing to save the puppy, Jimmy arrived just in time to

witness the chaos, squealing brakes, a yelp, a soft thump, and

then silence.

The garbage truck rumbled on, oblivious of the puppy or

Jimmy. A bystander sprinted into the street, scooped up the

dazed but breathing puppy, and called out for help as they

dashed off toward the vet.

“A few stitches and a cone of shame,” someone murmured.

“Lucky mutt.”

Jimmy wasn’t casually strolling on this Sunday morning;

this was a quest, a mission of unclear purpose and absolutely

no planning.

A puppy, of course, was chasing a garbage truck, as one

does when logic has taken the day off.

As the truck rumbled away, leaving behind only silence and

the faint smell of engine grease, Jimmy was in a daze…not just from

the truck, but with questions that ran deeper than the moment:

“Why do puppies chase garbage trucks?”

“What garbage trucks am I chasing?”

“Why am I here at this corner in the first place?”

They weren’t rhetorical. At least not to Jimmy.

But the most pressing question, the one that would haunt

everyone who heard the story, was this:

What happened to Jimmy?

—————————————————————————————————-

The crosswalk incident doesn’t just raise questions…it

marks the beginning of Jimmy’s strange journey.

And with the sound of sirens in the distance, Jimmy

has gotten Ms. Heneson, the cookie lady’s attention.
